We shone upon the wind

When we spoke fair words of love
in meadows where birds flew above
we never dreamed it would be gone
like petals blown upon the wind

Words we spoke of promise and trust
after we broke from hours of lust
now are vanished as days of yon
like seeds thrown upon the wind

Lastly we spoke of times we shared
yet even our nursery rhymes were not spared
lost in the night before the dawn
like whispers sewn upon the wind

We have not spoken in plenty of years
yet eyes fill instantly with tears
as they now wonder where we have gone
like spirits we shone upon the wind
