The Great Divide

My usual place,
corner of the café,
The perfect spot,
to eavesdrop, watch.
The waitress comes,
takes my order,
the usual.
My morning break.
Quick glance around,
no-one’s here yet.
My watch says its time,
gone quarter to nine.
My order comes,
finally settle in my seat.
Take out my paper,
rest my feet.
It’s been a month,
since I found this spot.
Saw something strange,
in one clear gaze.
That bright and sunny day,
I came down here for lunch,
a friend’s recommendation,
but more a feeling or a hunch.
A woman appeared from the corner,
took a place along from me,
orange juice and cake.
A glance at my coffee.
Dressed smartly in a suit,
masculine but right.
Blonde hair and blue eyes,
a hard-working delight.
She took out the morning paper,
and laid it down to read,
there was an air of richness,
but nothing of pure greed.
I was just finishing,
when I sensed a slight movement.
I saw the woman stop,
and look up in complete shock.
From around the water fountain,
came a goddess of this age,
dark hair, deep eyes,
and a sense of real crave.
She made way,
towards the chairs,
followed by a single gaze,
and sat right down without faze.
She made her order,
so slow,
but polite,
much to her audience’s delight.
Then my gaze shifted,
to the next,
the blonde was staring,
seemingly without caring.
The dark-haired women,
became aware,
and looked up herself,
and simply stared.
I remember that day,
with fondness,
delight,
those two eyes started right.
From around that same corner,
comes the blonde,
tight jeans, baggy hoody,
in balance with her body.
She sits in that seat,
her usual now.
Leans forward,
I can feel her need.
I go back to my thoughts,
that sunny day,
those eyes,
trapped in every way.
No one else had noticed,
just me,
as the dark looked down,
blushed then frowned.
A memory she is trying,
to remember.
These two,
I think have met before.
The blonde’s order arrives,
she smiles,
but pays no attention.
Her focus has been taken.
They have ordered the same,
that becomes apparent,
similarities,
as if it mattered.
A distance between them,
shows the divide,
old and new,
before and torn.
As if they could reach across,
but neither of them will.
It throws me off.
How can they stand the distance?
Green eyes sparkle,
throwing light around.
A sip of my coffee,
I’m simply spell-bound.
