a fervent ode to human possibility

Among the wise it seems agreed
that 'mid the anarchy of over-modern humanity,
there are many promising seeds
which may survive the silicon storm
and (with any luck)
push their heads above the mercantile muck
As their roots deepen,
they may freely suck the nourishment
left by Raphael, Kant, Durant,
Thoreau, Lucretius and such...
and thus may learn to embrace each other
as so many colored sisters and brothers
And wizened thus,
they may proceed to tend
the snow white moon
till before long,
civilized green shall bravely
show on planet Mars
As the centuries pass,
star-ship after star-ship
they'll go valiantly forth
to seek fruitful possibilities
on planets we can barely see
(or it may all end next week
'mid mushroom clouds of bigotry)
