GONE (IP)

He came to me in a dream
One whom once I had loved
Dreaming of the now, not the then –
Of my kids, and my grandkids
Of my husband, my life.
Of a coach trip from school
To a theatre in a faraway city, when
Came a quite by chance meeting!
A marriage quite fleeting
And so very soon broken
It could not be mended.
So much we might talk of
After such a long while,
The laughter, the tears:
But we had little to say.
He asked after my family –
I enquired of his wife.
And when the play ended
We shook hands, walked away,
Then we both turned and nodded;
And we ventured a smile.
We waved, and I watched him
To my great surprise,
As he faded and vanished –
There, before my very eyes.
When I woke with my darling
Still sleeping beside me
I knew that the past could remain in the past;
For now I remembered with sadness and pity
This unfortunate man had been dead for five years;
And I wondered if maybe he wanted to give me
His final farewell, and would rest now, at last.

It seems to have given you
It seems to have given you some increase of rest, Linda. It seems a picture of forgiveness, and pity and things one would like to have been able to share, but often it is not possible. I have written a fun thing for the IP, but at present they are struggling to get me able to post - so if it comes, it may be late!!. Rhiannon
(I think the lines come out double spaced if you just use return, but single spaced if you use shift+return. I cant decide which I like best anyway.)

From "And when the play ended
From "And when the play ended" this whole poem takes flight. Well done Linda.
Single space/dubbleshpashe/smubblesmashe - it doesn't matter - you've written a good poem. Well done.

Hi Linda,
Hi Linda,
Congratulations on your work and stories. I want to add more stories to my new collection, but could not locate any "write new story" link after four. Is there a daily limit or an easier way of posting multiple stories?
Thanks.

Adam Greenwell.

Great poem, Linda, and I'm
Great poem, Linda, and I'm only sorry I missed it, until now. Certainly a case of better late than never;-)
