Jim's eyes widened at the sight outside of the door. A man, a woman, and who he assumed was their daughter were huddled in the hallway, a small horde of the creatures quickly baring down on them. He knew he that logically letting these people in wasn't a good idea. They could be infected, but Jim just couldn't shake the look on the little girls face from his mind. So he made a decision. Jim threw a glance back at everyone else before opening the door as wide as it would go. He reached out and dragged the three of them inside with the others. He could hear Kathy's gasp of horror. Jim looked out to see the infected just standing there creepy smiles plastered on their faces. He had a very bad feeling about what he had just done, but nonetheless he shut the door and re latched it.
"What the-!?" Donovan yelled from behind the counter.
The creatures were just outside the door, so Jim ordered the others to grab furniture and barricade the door. They happily obliged.
"We need to move. This place isn't safe," said Jenny.
Oliver groaned and slumped to the floor, "Ugh, we just got here! I was just beginning to make myself at home."
Jim cleared his throat, interrupting their short quibble. When he got their attention he silently motioned towards the couple at the back of the room who were trying frantically to calm their crying daughter. "What now?" Jim mouthed, but Oliver just shrugged. Jenny rolled her eyes and approached the strangers.
"Excuse me-" Jenny tried to get their attention, but the parents ignored her. The little girl was in a terrible state, obviously terrified by her encounter with the not-so-friendly neighbors. Her eyes were clenched tight, and she was shaking violently. Jim wondered what kind of horrors the kid had seen in the past 24 hours.
The mother was crying too now, and the group could only watch in stunned silence, none of them knowing what to do. Thankfully the combined efforts of the man and woman were eventually able to staunch the flow of tears, and the girl settled down.
"Are you okay?" Jim asked and cautiously approached. Suddenly the man whirled around as if noticing them for the first time, and Jim found a pistol being aimed at his forehead. The man's eyes were filled with panic and desperation.
"GET THE HELL AWAY FROM MY FAMILY!"
