When Linda retired from work

As your retirement is upon us… let’s look back at the past
You’ve worked here for a dozen years… those years have gone so fast
You started as our “Vat expert”… with tax office pedigree
But it didn’t stop you washing pots… and making cups of tea
The computer was your next challenge… and it made you stomp and shout
But now I bet you wonder… what the fuss was all about
You then took over payroll… and you’ve passed on all you know
Let’s hope they took enough notes… to do it properly when you go
When clients came in to visit… they would give you funny looks
They knew you wouldn’t let them go… without taking their old books
There have been so many people… you worked with through the years
You shared their good times and their bad… and often shared their tears
There was Nicola, Donna, and Sarah… Zoe and Fiona too
They all lasted for a few years… but none as long as you
But it’s time to take things easy… you should call it a day
Cos’ your wrinkles are getting deeper… and your hair is almost grey
You could maybe take up knitting… and watch daytime TV
Or take bus trips to the seaside… and paddle in the sea
You could pop down to the post office… before they open and join the queue
Then waddle round the market… cos’ that’s what old folks do
But seriously… you deserve the rest… it’s time to have some fun
We’ll be sad to see you leave us… and say thanks for all you’ve done
Good luck in your retirement… there will be lots to fill your day
And now and then spare us a thought... while we still slave away
