I wish we went on walks

I don't trust people who don't like walking

they hail cabs to get from one end of a not very long road

to the other

and the thought of suggesting a weekend in the Cotswolds

you may as well try and hail a space shuttle

but some people like walking too much

they happily plough on in the rain

despite offers of lifts or a "put in on the tab" cab

passers by haunted by sude shoes in puddles

an unumbrellad head

the thought of socks drying on radiators.

There is an optimum time 

to stare at a painting in a gallery

a right amount to get excited

when you see an unusual dog

the right amount of time to walk by a pretty river

before deciding to stop walking by a pretty river.
