Look Out

look out
look out of the window
look out of the window
away from the phone or the book or the
screen
look out of the window
away from the phone or the book or the
screen and watch the land pass by
a land full of luscious
green
with cows and sheep and horses
grazing
and the farmers tending to the land and
herding the cattle and riding on the
tractor and the sun is bright that day
look out
look out of the window
look out of the window
away from the phone or the book or the
screen
look out of the window
away from the phone or the book or the
screen and watch the land pass by
the grass doesn’t grow
here anymore
the cows and the sheep and the horses
lie on the ground
sleeping for a day
a month
a year
an eternity
don’t look out
don’t look out of the window
don’t look out of the window
away from the phone or the book or the
screen
don’t look out of the window
away from the phone or the book or the
screen and watch the land pass by
hide from reality in all its
horror
hide from the cows and the sheep and the horses
who are merely a legend of a
time gone by
stay in the shell of another
world
a world where the sun still shines
and the grass still grows
please
please
draw the blinds
