Riddle (2nd October, 2014) – for National Poetry Day

I cannot keep hold of you;
you slip and slide -
like spilt mercury, you just divide;
ungraspable, each chance denied.
I pursue each glimpse of you;
you try to hide
like a clever fox, this huntress blind;
uncatchable, hard to make mine.
I cannot keep sight of you;
you fool the eye
like a silver fish in shallow light;
indistinguishable, reflected shine.
And finally, I lose you;
you seal the lie
like a dark shadow against blackened night;
undefinable. I’m out of time.

a clue?
My guess would be an eel, except for the third line. And, "I'm out of time"? What would that signify? Death, life?
I like riddles but I never get them right. Nolan &&

Disease - cell division came to mind. It's a beauty anyway, Jennifer.
