A poet's heart

I’d like to read your stuff
If you have time to share
Your heart, your soul, lay it bare
That bitter divorce that left you cold
That unspoken word which left untold
That twisted mind, that poison pen
That weeded heart overgrown again
That melodramatic rant known as your wife
Caused you chaos, bitterness and strife
I want to know why you cared so much
The reason why you persisted on
Amid all of the accusations and hatred and lies
Why didn’t you just throw in the towel
And be done with your vows
You said in sickness and health
I would be there for you
Share your dreams, your fears
And your pain with you
To love to cherish to have and to hold
Never to part till we get old
I’m a poet and ever true to my word
Wear my heart on my sleeve
Stitched in purple and gold
When I say a thing it comes to pass
Like the prophets of the bible
It’s meant to last
Now summer is gone
And outside is cold
The leaves have fallen
And winter moans
Our dreams could have been fulfilled
Until we were old, but now all I have left
Is a book full of poems.
