Primordial Swamp
It’s interesting to note that since the amino-acid chains first formed in the primordial swamps millions of years ago, that man when he finally arrived on this planet has certainly had an impact.
We talk of progress and in a technological age it is wonderful to see that we are reaching out beyond Earth’s atmosphere and exploring what is out there. Star Trek made popular the phrase ‘The Final Frontier’ and in a physical sense it is, but darker forces are in play in the minds of man as we struggle to distance ourselves from what I term as the ‘Ugg Man, Fire’ syndrome. That is, a return to the darker side of our existence.
I was reading an astronomy magazine the other day; not that I possess a telescope, but because it contained an article about Titan, one of Jupiter’s many moons. My heart is always lifted when I read about the wonders of the Cosmos, but quickly grounded again when I learn of some of the acts of man.
I grew up in the Sixties and married in the Seventies and saw incredible advances both in Science and other areas of human achievement. Yet that darker side was always there to spoil it. This piece was prompted by some mindless morons who invaded a football pitch, but I would not give them the pleasure of chronicling their actions here. However, it reminded me of one simple thing. No matter how far we think we have come, mankind is only a short distance away from the primordial swamp from which he came.
