Walk with me

Woke up this morning early ready for a stroll
the forecast telling of a misty start to the day
a promise of warm weather to follow
an early morning stroll along a deserted beach
a bed of sand beckons
come, lie with me awhile
sip peppermint sea topped with cuppuccino foam
granulated sand for sugar
pebbles tinkle in lapping waters
music to the ears
a seal drifts by smiling at the scene
refreshed for the steep climb
aching legs beg stop to watch
a blue sky lanced with jet vapour
high flyers to another world
the tall ship a three master seized by the headland
red sail fishing boat wallows in its wake
laden container ship slips past
stacked high dolly mix coloured boxes
melting in the sun
downhill to the bridge and wait
for the steam train to pass by
pulling happy faces
inland now down a leafy lane
klaxon sounds through the hedgerows
make way for a vintage coach
filled with Agatha sleuths seeking clues
a ‘who donnit it’ among the palm trees
ring the bell for the ferryman
the pub across the water
real ale to quench the thirst
plead tiredness and take the bus
an open topper hats held tight
alight at the quay
jazz notes float with
day trippers on a cruise
a snack of rough bread and cheese
cous cous on a sleeve
watch a polka dot balloon blow a roar
squeals from the wicker basket
hot ears cooled by a westerly
almost there towards the great hall
a buzz in the air
white draped bee keepers puffing smoke
cricket pitch trim and neat
heavy bellies swing on willow
in the courtyard a klezmer trio
play weeping laments
take in a sharp cider
and listen for awhile
wet eyed scan the What’s On board
events all year round to please
a note to pass this way again
