scrape off the name

i was buried

too soon;

i shouted hope

and dreams,

and no one heard.

even as the lid

was nailed down,

tipped earth,

chuckling back

toward the hole,

i shouted ‘too soon’!

now, the proud

stone catches

the midday sun,

flecked granite,

tugging mourners back again.

scrape off the name

chiselled letter by letter,

it was too soon –

my life had just got better!
