At the car boot sale you said 'I'll get this for Clara.'
An old typewriter with an L missing
but you said Clara would like the challenge.
You bought a carrot cake made by a 102 year old lady
holding a cigarette in her fingerless gloves.
'This is for Clara' you told me. You said
you were looking forward to telling her about the lady
who cooked for the soliders and is certain
her recipes helped win the Second World War.
By the end of the day you'd bought
knitted slipper socks for Clara.
Homemade sloe gin for Clara.
The same hat in three different colours for Clara.
A thousand piece jigsaw for Clara.
"I don't even know if she likes jigsaws!" you said
and laughed all the way back to the car.
