Gold

(inspired by Walter De la Mare’s ‘Silver’ – ‘ Slowly, silently, now the moon Walks the night in her silver shoon … A harvest mouse goes scampering by, With silver claws, and silver eye …)
The sun too golden for eyes to behold
glitters the rivers with flecks of gold,
brings gleam to metals, makes colours show
(– for the moon ensilvers all below),
as the gold of the sun brings a rainbow glow,
and some is absorbed for the green to grow,
brightening eyes for labour and play,
exposing the scene to pick out our way.
Our sun is more precious than piles of gold
but never a god to create and uphold –
so even more valuable to hear and be told
who formed it, and earth’s special orbit controlled:
truth golden revealed that supplies better light
than the sun rays that trigger our organs of sight,
untarnishable glory in heaven ahead,
and the dazzling Son, imperishable Bread.

Hi Rhiannon
Hi Rhiannon
I like the idea of the sun being gold in its properties of doing good on the earth.
