Chapter 23
Children of the Moon
Kia’s voice did not strike Alexander’s eardrums it reverberated through his core. She was inside him. In one great wave of euphoria, he knew her. Stunned with delight, he somehow collected his senses turned toward her engulfing her with empathy as Kian’s presence pierced his being. They were one; Kia and Kian. Now they were three.
For a brief moment, Alexander and Kia were in Kian’s bedroom on the Moon. They felt his longing, his confusion and his ultimate dismissal as Luna’s false morning stole his attention.
Overwhelmed Alexander rolled away from Kia, turning in the air, buoyant as a dust mite yet just as wingless.
“Kian lives Alexander,” Kia repeated her eyes fluttering open as she drew in a deep cleansing breath. She was not informing him, but rejoicing in the fact. He knew.
He turned toward her but did not recognize her. A gleaming white tunic flowed about her petite frame, covering her body from shoulder to ankle. Her hair golden tresses undulated around her head as though she were under water. Her face seemed older even though it was smooth and delightful as pink silk. Soft violet light glowed from her eyes and she had no wings.
“Alexander,” she said tilting her head toward him, “that is you, is it not.”
“You know me,” he replied, reaching toward her as he spoke.
She glided toward him and pressed her hands against his chest. He too wore a white tunic, but he also wore loose white pants.
“Where are your feathers Alexander? Where are your wings?”
“I don’t know. I don’t care.”
The sphere quivered as bands of red blue and green light streamed from its distant crystal walls and coiled about them like living things.
They smiled and for another brief euphoric moment delighted in each other’s essence. It was as if the sphere was rewarding them for their acceptance. It was.
“I took this from Myra, Alexander. This was her fate. Our ignorance cheated her out of it.”
“Did the sphere stop you and Kian?” Alexander asked, sidling up to her the moment he wished to do so.
“No,” Kia said, “it was meant to be.”
“Yes Kia, as we were meant to be. Time is our friend Kia, fate, our ally.”
“Yes, I can almost see his face.”
“Too soon little one, too soon,” Alexander said.
“Of course, We must speak with William and Peter, their daughters are safe, but they do not know it. This we can do, tell them they are safe.”
“Safe for now,” Alexander's features tightened with concern.
“For now, the present is sufficient if we do not waste it.”
“They won’t know us Kia.”
“We will teach them.”
Alexander nodded took her hand and slid off toward the crystal wall gently plowing through the neon -like rainbows engulfing them…
Wiping grease from her lips, Penny glanced up at Kian and flinched at the disappointment she saw in his eyes. Did their fanciful past not seem like a dream to him too, apparently not? She looked over at Kress and saw her own guilt. But what were they to do?
Memories of flying beneath the sea a legless mermaid seemed more preposterous the more she tried to relive them. She reached down and grasped her knees, felt the bone hard as stone pressing against her palms and fingers. They were real. She was actually holding reality, her knees, in the palm of her hand. She pushed away from the table and admired her new shoes, so shiny and slick so snuggly fitted around her feet, her feet!
She drew in a deep breath knowing she would be walking around the table in few minutes collecting dirty dishes, walking, feeling the hard certain floor pushing up against the soles of her feet, making her know, making her accept reality.
Memory, what was it, untouchable, forgettable, no longer real, maybe never real, is that all it was, a masquerading fantasy. Had any of it ever been real.
Thoughts of her parents blossomed in her mind. Were they just make believe too, no not if she brought them here and made them real. Only then, could she hold them and know her love for them was not just another fairytale.
Let Kian look down on her. She did not care. Kress knew, why he did not, she did not know. Maybe that is why they sent them here, to teach him. That they would do, if that would bring their parents here that they would do.

Love the idea of Alexander,
Love the idea of Alexander, Kia and Kian becoming one, now they know Kian is alive and have been to his bedroom on the moon...even for a brief moment.
I could see them ploughing through the neon - like rainbows engulfing them. Your writings becoming more and more descriptive as the story continues.
Beautiful.
Jenny.
