Chapter 4
Cyber Soul
Wind rustled through the treetops. Alex shivered but only for a moment. The Nanobots in his new body warmed him instantly reminding him that was no longer mortal. He was something else, something he could not yet name.
Days earlier he had made a pine straw lean to for Kia, a needless effort but it made him feel good and useful. He had no idea just how useful, how medicinal his mere presence had been. Her laughter turned his head and showed him plainly.
“Kia,” He said, twisting and rising as he spoke. She was sitting up, her violet eyes shining bright her gleaming white teeth peeking past her smiling rose pedal lips. “Kia,” he said again running toward her as she slid from under the lean to, raced down the grassy slope and into his open arms.
She did not lay her head against his bare chest like a child seeking comfort. She peered up into eyes as he pulled her tiny frame off the ground and kissed her mouth. Inhaling she drew his breath deep into her lungs wrapping her arms around him as he squeezed her tight against his naked chest.
After months of lonely grief, feeling more dead than alive, she could finally breathe again. Alex’s breath was her first breath of joy. It felt so right. It felt so good, to have him inside her.
As they kissed, she dug her fingertips into his back; his loneliness seeped into skin and traveled directly to her heart. Shame suddenly overwhelmed her. He was hurting too. He had lost everything he knew and loved. Yet he took care of her. His selfless concern only deepened her love for him. She had never known anyone the way she now knew Alex. She wanted to know more. She wanted to be his wife. With that acknowledgment, her heart opened inside his. Now she was inside him bound by their new gift of tactile empathy. Deep inside their cells began to quiver and dance as their Nanobots burrowed up from deep inside their flesh driven by deep mutual irresistible desire.
Slowly their bodies began to merge as their minds folded into one another. Pleasure more intense than any natural union could ever produce catapulted them into profound state of Euphoria that did not ebb away until glittering star bits winked down at them from the deep night sky only then did their bodies slowly peel apart and let them tumble away from one another. Mindlessly satiated they lay beside each other on the cool wet dew dotted grass and drifted off to sleep…
Kian buried alive in the very heart of the Moon knew nothing of this. Circles within circles spheres within spheres lay upon layer of fiber optic cables, surge buffers and electromagnetic containment fields had to be re –routed, command protocols rewritten subprograms reprogrammed, rebooted all while keeping his presence hidden from the super vigilant Technocrats.
Kian was now the computer, but that did not mean he was ready to take out the Techies while keeping their innocent victims, especially Kress and Penny perfectly safe. His attack would have to be swift and all encompassing.
The fact that the technocrats had located all of what they considered expendable worthless worker bees on the Moon’s surface made Kian’s job so much easier. The Technocrats’arrogance and the hateful segregation it spawned had sealed their fate.
Now all Kian had to do was gain control of the vast sea of Nano bot facilitators saturating not only the Moons artificial atmosphere but Chimera’s natural atmosphere as well. However, every detailed command had to be right. Once he unleashed his will, it would ripple through every molecule of air on the moon and Chimera. The result would be devastating for some and delightful for others.
All he wanted to do was set things right, bring truth and freedom to Luna’s deceived masses and bring Chimera back to all of her whimsical glory. Then there was the matter of meting out poetic justice for Chimera’s and Luna’s tormentors. He already knew what he wanted to do, but doing it would take a bit more time.
Had Kian known of Tech Maria’s plans for the girls he might have rushed things. As it was, his multitude of tasks utterly distracted him.
Maria sat in her room, sipped wine and waited for the subdural buzz that would let her know she had an incoming communication from the Company. Hours passed, The girls slept, Kian labored and then Maria jerked up and almost knocked a glass of red wine off the arm of her couch on to her spotless white shag carpet.
“Yes, really, that’s wonderful, thank you Commander Read.” She said into the air, “If even a speck of Chimera remains in Kress’ body I promise, I will dig it out with my bloody fingernails if I have to, and thank sir for your confidence in me. I will not let you down. And I will be sure to record every session for your,” She smiled to herself knowing she and the Commander were so very much like minded, “for your, ‘review’.”
Surfing on a wave of smugness and anticipation, she wasted no time in heading to the suspension chambers. Using anti- grav tunnels she sailed toward the sleeping girls like a hawk diving bombing at a couple of helpless field mice. Everything was right with the world, her world anyway, but that was about to change.
Suddenly her eyelids began to flutter. Her mind clouded. Her will melted away as her soul’s darkness bled out of her eyes and blotted out the light. She stopped sailing as her limp body up ended and drifted to wavering stop. She was leaf bobbing on an updraft, hanging helpless in the dark waiting for the heavy hand of justice to slap her into hell…
