Compassion

[Continuing the idea of a hymn for Sundays]
They flocked to Jesus from afar,
to hear him and be healed,
and evil spirits fled before
the power that Christ could wield.
All wanted to receive from him,
not just to be informed,
and when his touch implants his words
by them we are transformed.
Our needs are more than medical –
soul-brokenness we hide,
but healthy lives are sick and blind –
we need his truth applied.
It’s painful to confront these things,
let Christ expose and heal,
admit the damage we have done,
and seek his help for real.
He did not charge, they did not come
to barter or to pay;
he welcomed all who came in need,
his power’s the same today:
because he progressed to the cross,
his wounds procured the grace
to heal hurt souls, and lead us home –
no sickness in that place.
‘he had compassion on them because they were like sheep without a shepherd.’ Mark 6:34 and Luke 6:17-19
(DCM eg Kingsfold [arr R Vaughan Williams], or can be sung again to ‘O little town of Bethlehem’ - Christmas Carol)

Hi Rhiannon
Hi Rhiannon
Aren't Christmas carols handy when it comes to melodies. This is another good one.
