Missing out

Twenty five years ago I knew a man,

a homeless alcoholic.

He was fifty odd years of age.

He told me he had started drinking as a teenager

because he was afraid that he was missing out.

It occured to me that he had missed out on his whole life

The life expectancy of a homless alcoholic is fifty five.

I saw them running back from work, or cycling.

Eating fruit and drinking water.

Must live as long as I can
