the sunday cycle

the sunday cycle

his bike

is newer, cleaner,

heavier with presence.

hers isn’t.

but she rides

so much harder.

her face,

determined,

yet stroke-like,

tells how hard

she works,

to maintain the gap

between them.

5 ½ years married now.

she needs that gap

to breathe.
