Birthday Morning

My eyes slowly opened and I looked around my room for the first time of the day. My turtle noisly splashed in his tank next to my bed and I groaned of annoyance at his loud splashes. As I flung my feet out of my bed and down onto the floor, I noticed something different about my room. A puppy with a bow sat in the corner. I suddenly remembered that this was not a normal morning, it was my 18th birthday today! Adulthood is upon me, groan, I thought. The puppy just sat there wagging it's tail and drooling. I went over to the pug and gave the puppy a pat. Unfortunate for my finding, the pug is a lover of sliming people with licks. I giggled as my door creaked open. I turned around to find my mom standing there with a happy birthday red velvet pancake. I smiled as the pug puppy ran over and drooled on her foot. She patted the puppy on the head and put the pancake platter on my bed.
"Happy birthday to my daughter. Happy birthday to her." she said in a sing-song voice that made me grin.
I gave her the biggest most happiest and loveable hug I have ever given her. She kissed me on the top of my head like all mothers do and asked me what I named the pug.
My thoughts pounded on the topic.
"Rufus." I shouted out making my mom and Rufus jump.
My dad came in and handed me a key.
"What is this to?" I asked with great curiosity.
He pulled my arm over to a box and told me to open it with the key. I opened it and was shocked to find a dog treat. My dad went laughing away. Rufus unfortunatley smelled the dog treat and pushed me to the floor and stuck his whole self in the mini-locker sized box. This made my mom laugh.
She then left me alone with Rufus and my turtle. I took a big bite of one of my red velvet pancakes and smiled at the once-a-year treat. The pancakes are always so fluffy and melt in your mouth. I smiled and soon the pancakes were gone.
I fed my turtle and took Rufus downstairs to the living room. A whole stack of dog toys, food, and books sat where my spot on the couch was. I smiled, realizing my one wish was finally complete. My favorite dog can call me family.
