Inferno

To make an inferno
of a persons’ home
is to question the ground
where the building stands,
watching flames lick the side of it
as neighbours scream wildly.

Not far from that ground,
the Nation’s leaders sleep soundly
as the lowly of this building gasp,
those who’ve survived, along with
those who perish in a final
baptism, into a world better than this.

When a home is made knowingly
of poor materials, and people
put at risk, can a Nation’s
leaders ever claim to deserve
their positions, to dictate their
chess moves from fortifications?
