No Interest In Us
I am of no interest to her
Nor my like who feed her.
Only numbers, Libre in excelsior,
In Gloriana ring her bell.
Scraping by, penny-scarce
Each day a fiscal desert
Thirsting for a life, a roof
To shelter from the storms.
She waves her crooked fiscal wand
A spell of misery,
But not the rich,
No they will smile.
Their interest half revived
They cry ‘Not enough!’
I must be the broken straw
Upon which their nest egg
Warm and safe.
The old Lady of Threadneedle Street
Cares not for the likes of me
The rich must have their fill
They have the power…
Me? I have a mortgage
She and her needle have pierced my life
And the Mandarins care not…unless I dare to not pay up.
