Long ago there was a country called Sparta where every citizen was required to join the army.
The reason why every citizen was required to join the army was because the King of Sparta wanted the largest army in the world.
But the King of Sparta and the ruling class that surrounded him were terrible, cruel and tyrannical.
So one day, having had enough of that tyranny, the people rose up against the ruling class.
"Call the army", the King said, "Suppress the revolution".
"What army?", the other nobles asked him, "The people ARE the army".
And so, because they had no army to enforce the oppression of the people, the elite of Sparta were overthrown.
