Flybe – Glasgow – Aberdeen – Trump – Omar Khayyam - 1000 Guineas – Convenience Food
While I prepared this diary for dictation to Man Servant both of my Servants were on their travels to Scotland. In their absence Mitsie and I have been catered for by the itinerant servants, Jacqui and Pascal. They have catered for us very well. This was despite that on the first evening they called they had to clear up a slight mess caused by Mitsie’s continuing failure to recognise the difference between contentment and capacity. Servant Jacqui had removed her shoes on entering Omar Towers and it was through my Geeves like intervention that she did not suffer the indignity of a scatological treatment for athlete’s foot.
The news I have heard of my Servant’s travels has been very mixed to say the least. Lady Servant had ‘wheels up’ at least an hour before Man Servant from Southampton. Her planned time of arrival in ‘Aberdeen’ was around mid-day and Man Servant’s ETA, I believe that is the correct acronym for ‘estimated time of arrival’, was approximately 1400. His flights were on schedule while Lady Servant eventually reached Aberdeen at 1730. Understandably she was very tired.
Oh how the plans of mice and women have fallen foul of FLYBE again.
While my servants are away I have been keeping in contact with the wider servant world through the BBC on the radio.
I hear that a servant named ‘Trump’ has taken his country out of a nuclear agreement with another country called ‘Iran’. I think this is the country where my namesake ‘Omar, Omar Khayyam, heralds from:
‘Tis all a Chequer-board of Nights and Days
Where Destiny with Men for Pieces plays:
In my own humble opinion, based on reading about international relations over Man Servant’s shoulder, I feel that if there is an agreement no matter how tawdry or ineffectual then it is better to have that in place as a basis for continuing dialogue rather than make some grandstand spectacle of deciding not to respect it which is what servant Trump has done. Now Iran will not speak to America, sanctions will be imposed and Iran will become more isolated on the world stage just at a time it needs to be brought into it.
In my previous diary I made two selections for the 1000 Guineas. Both of them were mentioned in the commentary but neither of them figured in the first three placings in a race which went to a 66/1 rank outsider. I do apologise for this terrible outcome and if it is any compensation to readers who backed these selections rest assured that I did not receive a yellow banana or blue goldfish for my efforts as my bonuses are strictly performance related.
The Servants are home later from Scotland.
I will be very pleased to see them both and hope most sincerely that they have not returned with some of the dietary habits that are stereotypical of Aberdeen and Glasgow. It would be most unbecoming here at Omar Towers to see them having takeaway meals from the local convenience food outlet.
