The Lord’s Supper

[Continuing the hymn-for-Sundays series]
To solemn thought of Calvary
reflect, direct your memory –
God’s love in sending us his Son
who understood what must be done,
aware how great the agony
of crucifixion on a tree,
and that the judgement, sentence for
our sins, would deeply hurt him more.
Remembrance, not with doleful grief,
but with triumphant joy, relief,
a Saviour risen, who will care
for those who his salvation share.
Complete the sufferings he bore,
and we must not forget, ignore:
eat bread, drink wine, proclaiming thus
redemption he procured for us.
With glad and tender hearts, now come
with thankfulness for pardon won
and meditating on his grace
with wonder tasting his embrace
and taking courage – this we do
until he comes for all to view
as King to draw his flock away,
all evil gone, a glorious day.
