this weather station

this weather station
positioned at a distance
remote and true,
this structure stands still
recording changes
in the air;
the observed passing of time
stripping the outlook
essentially abandoned
it has become something
only the hardiest walkers see,
nestling for a photograph
beside this soundless shape;
stoic and simple
it can make no words
some are amazed
by the resilience,
the facing down
of shearing cold
starless night
a winter of no faces;
the utter loneliness of a hot summer
there will come a day
when none will know
this structure,
unbricked one piece at a time
no one aware
of which brick began the collapse
into the embrace of patient soil;
irrevocably made hollow
from the inside out.

It seems odd that it has been
It seems odd that it has been left there if no longer used. Although I suppose if it was private not an official station that could well happen. Could such a remote place be enabled to send signals of measurements by satellite? Rhiannon
