Echoes of Past and Future,
where the rich get ever richer,
and the poor play scrabble.
Society has been perverted and inverted.
The people who it is supposed to serve have become its slaves.
And all the money somehow finds its way to the top,
instead of nourishing society like rain.
Money finds its way somehow magnetically to where it came from,
back into the moneybags of the top banks and shareholders.
An uncaring President has misused his authority,
for the good of the few rather than the many,
although many would say he’s given many another chance,
by resurrecting trade barriers and making trade wars.
Repealing legislations which were there for a reason in the first place.
Metal disposal to stop it contaminating the rivers.
Now the waste can go anywhere.
Encouraging the use of coal and oil,
even at a time when there are new cleaner sources of energy becoming available.
He has interests in the dirty fuels, and so do his backers,
people who have lent or given him money in return for his support.
It is clear he will use government powers wherever he can to support the interests of himself and his backers.
Nepotism is now okay.
Sons daughters and cronies can receive favours and office,
regardless of ability and experience.
He has wealth, but I would like to guess much of it is borrowed.
He is in place to serve his many masters who probably pull his strings.
The charmer attracts those who need him in the White House.
Drain the swamp? Its more like drain the public purse,
and drain the pockets of the poor,
the many who cannot earn enough to make ends meet.
Why remove state health insurances from those who can least afford it themselves
or are likely to need it the most?
Where is the trickle down?
I was going to write a novel,
but I ended up writing a poem or a rant.
Someone needs to document what is happening,
what has been happening,
so one day we will know where we went wrong,
so we will know how to put things right.
We have never had it right.
There is no such thing as perfection,
but surely we could get it a bit more right than this.
All we have got to do is record and measure,
don’t forget, but watch and wait,
learn how to do it better next time.
Everyone needs a place.
Immigrants are on the move.
The life is not good enough at home.
Something is wrong!
Is there no work, no prospects, and not enough to earn,
or are you fleeing civil war and repression?
China and Vietnam now, economic migration,
war or terror in Afghanistan, religious or cultural intolerance.
Wars in Syria and Iraq, and now in Yemen.
Libya is chaotic, northern and Eastern Africa.
Honduras!
Why can’t the people find a home where they come from,
where they belong?
People willing to pay all their wealth,
to make themselves indebted for the European or the American Dream.
And dream it often is, because what do we have that’s so fantastic?
Will they find a place amongst High Rents and Hard Work, the long commute,
or worse the criminal gangs enslaving the illegals.
For too many it’s a dream that may end in death or at least slavery.
