Chill

Roadside shorn of colour, bleak,
waiting for the sun to break
through the misty veil to cheer,
waiting for the turn of year
when the warmth will stir again
soil, and seeds and buds to swell
at the end of winter’s chill.

You have caught that anticipation at the year's end perfectly, the air thick with fog like packing material. Your last two lines hopeful and the lively rhythm gives a positive feeling

I feel chilly just reading.
I feel chilly just reading. It's a small and perfectly crafted picture of mid-winter. I have a winter solstice birthday, the day is so short and I fear it makes me slightly dark in character. Nevermind soon be spring, little green shoots poking through the gloom.
