The runner gasps

as one foot clips a stone -- yet

jogging good for these

older bones--

heart on high alert

somehow able to stand

the strain of exertion

breathing into the wind.

Slap slapping on the sidewalk

sneakers bought at Jones’

footware – medium priced

helping his feet maintain

a snappy momentum

then around a bend

short-cut through the park

hits a bench

and flung onto the grass

leg hurts

pain needs rest -- ah rest.
