Valentine

On the 14th of February
some girls can't resist
the promise he makes
of a romantic tryst.
 
He sends them flowers
and make them pine
for his ardent kisses.
His name is Valentine.  

He says that he is
a film producer.
Do not believe the lie,
he is a vile seducer. 

Dismiss the image
that his P.R. paint.
He is a cunning devil
and is not a saint.

The name is very often
linked with holiness,
the cause of much regret
and unhappiness.

Valentine must have been cunning, never realized there was an evil side to his plan, though perhaps that's why you were never supposed to know who the gift came from.

Clever poem Luigi, relaying another side to this day.

Sadly a story of our times, Jenny, bearing in mind a transatlantic producer currently in the news.
But let's be hopeful of better days and think of true romance when young lovers can sigh and swoon just looking at the moon.

I'm fond of swooning myself, given the right inducement, but your Valentine sounds like one to steer clear of. An interesting take on Valentine's Day, I think! :)

It is more a social comment based on current affairs than a celebration of Valentine's day, which is perhaps not what readers might expect.
Sometimes I am inspired by headlines to produce a piece, like this one, that could generate a discussion or even a debate. I have seen other writers use this site as a platform to make a point or protesting against particular issues.
