I HADN'T THOUGHT OF THAT BEFORE.....

I know this girl, she had lots of long beautiful hair. One day she cut it off and changed her name to a boy’s name and her hair was very short in the style of a boy. She dresses like a boy. She has been like this now for about two years. She has made it clear she wants to be a boy, her Mum still calls her by her birth name and so do I, I’ve known her all her life, and she has a girlfriend.

Everything seemed to be going smoothly, then she did something that confused me. She wanted to go into the female changing room of a large department store, but the Sales Assistant wouldn’t let her. Her family and friends are angry with the Sales Assistant, but why should they be? If a person who looks like a man then they shouldn’t be allowed in the Women’s changing room.  Women wouldn’t expect to see a Man in the Women’s changing room, just like Men wouldn’t expect to see a Woman in the Men’s changing room.

The family and friends want to get the Sales Assistant into trouble, and they want Stephen to point out who she is. In my view, the Sales Assistant didn’t do anything wrong, she was just doing her job. How is the Sales Assistant supposed to know what is going on in her head? I would have thought she would have been happy to go into the Men’s changing room, that’s what confused me. Wouldn’t that have been mission accomplished?
