Subtle ‘normalisings’

Dark times of much uncaring callousness
replaced by real compassion,
desire to help and heal, relieve;
    but now? how come our nation
    has ‘normalised’ a view of pain and death
    where babes are cruelly slaughtered before birth
    where sex or handicap or date
    are inconveninet to those sheltering the growing wait?

Dark times when mouths were sealed by dictate
of the few, a stifling of discussion and debate
all told that they must parrot, think beliefs they do not hold;
    but now the ‘normalising’ is woked of such a state
    again, when some attempt to order they won’t tolerate
    a deviation from opinions that some moralists unfold,
    nor let the questions, queries, arguments polite be told.
