The Love of Her Life

Sophie watched her beloved, asleep on the pillow beside her and caressed her alabaster skin with the back of her hand until it was swatted off. She was too happy to sleep. She repositioned herself on the bed and lay with her hand behind her head and recalled the first time she had set eyes on the love of her life….
She remembered watching as her fellow classmates entered the open, wooden double doors. Her eyes darted from each to the next before setting on the most beautiful girl she had ever seen. It was as if the world had stopped spinning and time stood still; there she was, walking into the vast, tiered lecture hall, light glowing from behind her like a halo. Sophie followed her with her eyes, her mouth open as if catching flies. When she heard the most beautiful voice come from equally beautiful, sumptuous lips, that happened to be standing beside her all of a sudden, she was shocked. The goddess repeated a question Sophie was too distracted to hear the first time; ‘is this seat taken?’
She remembered sitting in the aisle seat in the first row and registering that the question was directed at her, she clumsily moved her bag off the adjoining seat and scooted over to let her official new crush sit down. She was in awe of the beauty this girl was exuding. As if in a trance, she took out her iPad from her black messenger bag that was covered in buttons. She noticed from the corner of her eye that she wasn’t the only one.
She remembered that the pair managed to get their devices out at the same time, when, to Sophie's amazement, the girl introduced herself as Jess and extended her right hand. Sophie took the outstretched hand with pleasure and her eyes moved from Jess’s hand, up her arm, to her face, until finally their eyes locked. Sophie felt butterflies in her stomach, and fireworks sparked. She remembered how their gaze lingered until they were snapped into attention by the lecturer introducing himself as Tom Sparrow.
Sophie remembered how she sat, her iPad and pencil out, but couldn’t manage to engage in her first class of her college experience, she was too distracted by Jess. She was under the presumption that Jess was uninterested, but the flutter of butterflies in her stomach prayed differently. When Jess, who was also avoiding note-taking, turned her head towards Sophie, her cheeks rubescent, her smile breath-taking, Sophie noticed a twinkle in her eye. Sophie returned the smile and as Jess nodded her head, the few loose brunette locks of hair, danced to the beat of Sophie's heart. Tom Sparrow had said a lot of interesting facts in the lecture, but Sophie's heart said a lot more.
Sophie was transported back to the present as jess turned and lay her head on her bosom. Sophie stroked jess’s hair and a smile span across her face as she realised she was the happiest she had ever been, together with the love of her life.
