… the reminder of the Holy Spirit sent to empower the believers … (Acts chapter 2)

Fifty days from Resurrection,
ten days from Jesus’ Ascension,
told to wait the Spirit’s coming,
filling, comforting, empowering.

Suddenly, a rushing sound,
many gathered from around
heard them tell what God had done
each in his own language, tongue.

Disciples strengthened, energised
gladly they evangelised,
told what they had seen and heard,
of the Saviour’s life and Word.

Jesus had procured salvation,
now announced to every nation
work of wonder must be spoken
so some will from sleep be woken:

Thus from hopeless condemnation
finding free and full redemption,
and that day three thousand heeded
found that love and grace they needed.

Passover – redeeming lamb,
then the harvest time began;
at Pentecost full harvest shown
– the fruit of Calvary’s work now known.
