Today marks the one year anniversary of my father's death. I wrote this in June, but saved it for today.
perspective
Jennifer Pickup, 16.06.2023
at the time
quicksilver emotion
and shattered rainbow light
fires lit in winds of change
phuttering and fluttering
heart high like helium kite
impossible to pin down
amidst crushing darkness
hiding tears underneath
velvet night
later on
all things solidify
liquid thoughts to dust dry
feelings less mercurial
now warm flesh turned to cold ash
scattered under greying sky
calm but inconsolable
a lost soul searching for
peace in pieces of my
shattered life

Jennifer, congratulations on
Jennifer, congratulations on the golden cherries. Anniversaries are always so hard as your beautifully moving poem expresses so well. Sending you a very big hug (and give your lovely new dog share a scratch under the chin from me)
