Exit Wound

Your love was as deadly as
a seven-point-six-two
calibre bullet,
leaving the barrel faster
than the speed of sound.
So fast I barely registered
your pointed tip pierce
the skin between the ribs,
and tear into the unprotected
heart beneath;
releasing for one sacred moment,
the ecstasy of unhindered love,
before you left as quickly
as you came.
They say you never hear,
the shot that kills you,
and a bullet,
causes more damage,
on the way out.
But they don’t tell you,
love is no different
They let you learn that one
when it’s far too late.

An interesting metaphor -
An interesting metaphor - love being a bullet shot into the heart - then the exit wound as it leaves.
