Chapter 6

A Wee World Of Their Own  

Sammy was about six years old when he discovered a large hole in the school playground . He told no one about it and began to explore it .
Each day he pulled out all of the rubbish that filled the hole and eventually he found a huge stone that covered an entrance to a passage way .

One morning just before the school bell rang , Sammy had managed to lever the stone away and as he did he began to scream with excitement .
He felt his head spinning as he was propelled through the air,
round and round in a vacuum of time .
Sammy was being sucked through a twisting tunnel .He landed in
a distant place and found himself sliding down a strange roller coaster ramp .
Round and round he went . Down and down he sped , faster and faster until he hit the bottom with a thud and a thump .

Lying there helpless on the ground surrounded by darkness his hand reached into his pocket and turning on his torch Sammy shone his beam of light straight ahead .

He was amazed to see and long road with trees on each side of the road . As he got to his feet Sammy began to walk along the road .
Birds flew over and rested on his shoulder singing softly songs in his ear .

Along the way he helped himself to the wonders of this magical place .
Long bars of black liquorice that hung on the trees ,as did peppermint sticks and fudge . On the ground there lay other treats like sherbet rocks , and flowers made of honeycomb . The plants and even the grass where made from marshmallow jelly and soft candy .

The rushing gushing sounds of a river flowing nearby caught Sammys attention and so he made his way in that direction .
Sammy sat down at the river bank and to his surprise he found it was not water he found there but the river was a sparkling stream of the coolest lemonade he had ever tasted . After he drank his fill Sammy fell fast asleep .

As he awoke he was whisked away on a banana scented breeze that lifted him into the air as if he were a feather .
Higher and higher Sammy was blown until a winged horse came to his rescue .
“Hello there , throw your arms around my neck and get on my back . Trust me I am Peggy the flying horse of Ambers Sky , sent to be your guide and friend here in this place Who are you .?
Sammy held on tightly to Peggy’s neck and then screamed
“My name is Sammy .“
“Well Sammy if you ever get into trouble just think of me and call my name and I’ll be right there at your side “
The flying horse weaved in and out of the clouds , under a rainbow and
Then stretched out its long wings and glided down towards the ground .
The horse landed in a clearing of a forest and said ,
‘Here is where you get off Sammy “
Standing on a blanket of thick flowers , Sammy waved goodbye to Peggy .
He felt there where eyes upon him and so he took off on foot , running fast into the woods ahead.
Behind him there where other footsteps keeping up with him as he ran .
Sammy picked up the pace and ran faster , then he stopped dead in his tracks .
It was a matter of seconds when the wee ones where seen .
They were running like the clappers but could stop as fast as Sammy
.and ended up slipping and sliding right into a pond at the foot of the hill
Sammy burst out laughing and pulled out the wee ones from the water .

“Now look what you’ve done “ Said one of the Wee ones .
“It wasn’t my fault “Said Sammy
“We own the woods and we have the right to chase anyone out :”.
“You mean to tell me you where chasing me out , That’s a laugh “
“The jokes on you “ Said the wee ones, who suddenly all ran off “
Not to be left standing Sammy gave chase .
Over tree stumps he jumped and through bushes he raced after the wee ones

He finally came to a clearing in the woods and there stood a small cottage .
The wee ones where all looking out from inside the cottage , and shut the windows as Sammy walked over to the front door .
But this was no ordinary cottage , the door was made of chocolate , The windows frames where made of fudge .
All the bricks where made of caramel and Sammy couldn’t resist it any longer. First he ate the door then once inside he saw the furniture that was made from wafer biscuits , they went down easily . Next he ate the floorboards that tasted like toffee and where quick to swallow .
The wee ones watched Sammy bit by bit demolish their entire cottage .
They began to wildly jump up and down screaming
“Stop ! Stop! Stop ! “
But Sammy was in another world and continued eating the window frames and the rafters and finally the last piece of the wee ones cottage disappeared with a burp!

“ Well are you satisfied now “ said one of the wee ones looking up into Sammy’s face .

Sammy felt ashamed and said ,
“I’m really very sorry for eating you out of house and home but once I started I couldn’t stop .myself . Please let me help you rebuild another cottage “.

After giving it a lot of though the wee ones agreed ,
“ Well ok then . Follow us “
They took Sammy out into another part of the forest and said ,
“These trees with the paper white leaves are the chocolate trees,
and those trees with the heart shaped leaves are the caramel. trees “

They gave him a saw and he started to chop down tree after tree ,while the wee ones lit a fire and began to melt down the caramel and chocolate and pouring into moulds they made bricks and long planks .
In no time at all Sammy had rebuilt their cottage and with the birds singing again in the magic forest Sammy said farewell to the wee ones .

He continued his journey through the magic forest until he came to a beach .
Waves crashed down on the golden sandy shore as Sammy sat down there in the sun shine . Music echoed all around the beach as if it was being piped on a stereo system .He knew all the songs they were the latest hits on the pop charts . Placing his hands over his eyes he squinted through the glare at the sky above .He could hardly believe his eyes when ice creams began to parachute them selves down onto the sand .
One by one Sammy caught the ice creams and eat them all up . The waves washed the lollipop looking rocks and strawberry juice bubbled and flowed in and out of every crevice and crack .
The sand tasted like sherbet and once again Sammy was lifted into the air on a banana breeze .He suddenly thought of Peggy , and closing his eyes he said
“Please help me Peggy “
In that very instant from nowhere Peggy appeared in mid air and caught Sammy who was going backwards on a banana breeze .
Peggy flew over the sea and the mountains , through the clouds and came to land near the school playground .
‘It’s time for you to go now Sammy . “
‘Thanks Peggy . Will I ever see you again “ Asked Sammy .
”All you have to do is close your eyes and call my name “
Said the flying horse as it took off into the sky .Sammy waved and within seconds Peggy was gone beyond the clouds and out of sight .

Sammy ran all the way home , and out of breath he tried to tell him Mum and Dad all about his adventure .
“Guess where I’ve been .Through a time tunnel into another place and time where wee ones live in a magic forest . I met a flying horse who talks and
told me secrets you’d never ever imagine “

Listen Sammy “
Said his Mum
“You have to stop this daydreaming . It’s always the same . Flying horse and magic forests . Go and get into a bath will you”

“Listen Son”
said his Dad
‘it sounds like you had a really busy day there so after your bath you better get straight into bed , before you wake up .Ok “

Sammy laughed and laughed .
“Will no one ever believe me ?”
He said .

“After his bath he looked out from his attic bedroom window and soaring over the rooftops he watched Peggy the flying horse do arcs and loops in the sky .
Sammy got into bed and closed his eyes and said ,
‘Thank you God for a wonderful day”
