‘No, I won’t be needing breakfast’
premier inn, tell me
they go that extra mile
and i can see that,
in the exhausted receptionist,
her dead eyes
and rehearsed smile
my sheets are crisp
and clean and
pube-less,
smokers
are well catered for,
as are gluttons
lumbering toward breakfasts
bottomless
and expensive,
it is summer,
and the vending cans
are colder than quiet
try finding somewhere
to hang yourself with a belt –
the coat hooks
folded like an unrehearsed lie,
the shower rail
squealed and strained
and choked – then broke
cushioned
by yesterday’s towels,
whilst there is enough bedding
to fashion a quality noose
the window
barely opens enough to vape
never mind, let loose
they really have
thought of everything,
for the lone traveller

I hope you're going to put
I hope you're going to put this one in your next collection? Bleak and very black humour, it packs a giant punch

I had never considered lack of ligature points, but often thought of them as devoid of human warmth. Closely considered and a memorable piece.
