Chapter 12
Behind The Fire
37
Disembodied floating free against a starless backdrop of infinite emptiness. They gravitated toward one another. Indestructible energies, personalities, pasts, sum totals of experience, will and emotion seeking opportunities of expression and interaction, answers found only in life. But what sort of life.
Their ancient dream of an Earth long forgotten by its long dead occupants would never fade from their memory. A world, a reality, plucked from their respective genetic memory cobbled together by forces and powers unseen but inescapable still toyed with them, but only out of necessity. These special ones, whose very existence posed questions and problems the old ones knew they dare not ignore.
An old forgotten Earth floating in its’ old forgotten universe seemed an appropriate stage and perfectly serviceable laboratory. But they proved too inquisitive, too powerful, too impatient. They were drawn together by love or fear or who knows what. Their rediscovered power short -circuited the study. They unwittingly upended their happy pretense, but also yielded a better appreciation of just how powerful these strange children truly were. Could they grow strong enough to unseat them. Replace them. A terrifying question.
Life, no matter how potentially threatening cannot be erased. There is no death, no cessation of existence. Therefore, their presence would not only have to be carefully managed but studied. A new fire must be built, new elements (if they existed) exposed. But how hot must this fire burn before the dross melted away and unearthed their true nature and threat. Too hot to contain? Possibly. But they had no choice. New old ones, new Watchers could not be tolerated. No one would ever be allowed to displace them.
A new world with stronger barriers would have to be found, not fabricated from ancient memories. It would have to be real, present, not plucked from the past.
These new entities that called themselves human or strion needed stability, so as not to trigger uncontrolled reaction. The Watchers would let them be happy, at least for a while….

I do like the beautiful picture to this part, it adds unstanding to the narrative of your story ray.
On to next part with anticipation.
