Before The Alarm

In a moment, I shall get up
Put on my face and slip into myself,
Then go out into the crowds
That flow, senseless as the tide
Down wet roads towards work.
But now, I am here
Wrapped around by clean sheets
A resident of the hiatus
Between sleeping and being awake
A thing as yet unborn;
Waiting on a bell
