Fishers of Men
Two evangelists
on my bus,
Wearing starched
shirts, holding
Their bibles like
shields, asking
Can we talk
about GOD?
Probably not
the same god,
Yours hectors
in capitals about sin;
Mine asks quiet
questions without answers;
Your god fills
epic silences;
Mine finds shape
in peasants, dumb
As beasts gathering
at a stable door,
Like painters
from competing schools,
We see a different form
in the same function;
As we haul crosses
to the same destination
October 2013.
