Standing in the departure hall
I call the tower for clearance,
Fly back thirty years to land
Running barefoot on wet sand
Under a gull loud sky;
Madly innocent, thinking
Being elsewhere means being free,
Yet it is distance that drives
The wedge into hope,
Survival depends on being still;
The rocky headland endures
Because it doesn’t dodge the storm
April 2012.
