Aidoneus kisses his wife goodbye
and makes her promise to be careful
until he can protect her again
in the Autumn
Year after year
They repeat this sacred ritual
and Persephone curses
her fear of Demeter
which prevented her
from eating the last six seeds
all those years ago
She turns away
wishing the pain would melt away
like the frost she removes
from the land
