new year

grey this new year morning,
wait this new years morning
for the hangover to pass
Rebel-Rebel mothers sang
in a whirl for boys and girls
singing late and dancing
songs that thistles evening
lines gut-hard and echoing
into this new years morning
years have passed, are passing,
bonds have joined now scattering
or holding tight and tightening
memory lenses showing
patterns fixed or flowing
persisting or resisting
and all our laughter pattering
beach-tide bones with patterning
along this new years morning
