Beautiful Destinies

We are all bits and pieces of things we might never be,

and we forget that we can find new things in these other destinies.

As screwed up as it all is, as unimaginable as it may seem

that we met in the not meant to be,

that our paths crossed on that winter evening

beyond the smoky breath,beyond the shivering

you found my heart.

Don’t be fooled by the scars

That left me burdened and broken in ways that made it hard

To see the ground from the stars

In you I have  found  an equilibrium, a constant  point I could focus on

a fellow traveler and not just an  offshoot across the lines on my palm.

The stars remained as they were the day we met,

the sun shone as it did any other day,

it now belongs to a collection of memories of all the things we could be

the things we have become.

Don’t envy the could have beens that never were

If it had all gone as planned, we would never have been here

Tilt you head from the past and face me

and together we shall build new dreams

and come to find that these bits and pieces can make far more beautiful things.
