The personification of me in your universe; an unfinished lyric

Everything is you
The heat, the cold
You are the currents of the ocean
And I am driven by the whims of your motion
You are the whole earth
The trees that generate my oxygen
And yet you see right through me
When I’m with you always
Cherishing the days you take me in
Remembering the summer when it’s my name you’d whisper
And yet I am before you shapeless and formless
Chastised by your cigarette
Let me be shackled to your existence
Forsake freedom for substance
Then your face would be for much more than a soft brush or mild caress
I could take you in my arms and you would actually notice
What more could there be but to die to know your embrace
In this ghost of a shell,
I see everything you are down to your cells
And I get but a passing fancy on a nice evening when you are not otherwise pre-occupied
I listen to your jagged breathing, not missing a single gasp
I envy the sunrays for their bedazzling charm, their ability to keep you warm,
the earth for being strong and firm even as desert sands shift
I even envy the water upon which you drift and feast
I lose sight of you when you are submerged
I tangle in the seaweed and hold fast to the urchins
I know the smell of your skin
The feel of it before and after anything that requires breathing
You never hear my screaming.
The longing intensifies and I take flight
But can never seem to escape the beating of your absent heart
