I See Rabbits

They are everywhere,
Scattering at random as I wind my way home,
Along the deserted midnight lanes,
Towards my wife and warm bed.
I have listened to drunken drivel for hours,
While cupping my Coke in cold hands,
Feigning interest in your talk of tax,
And technobabble.
And now I see rabbits,
They look white in my headlights,
Like smaller versions of Alice's companion,
In wonderland.
Once home, I slip between the sheets,
And tell my wife about the crazy creatures,
She plumps her pillow, turns over,
And accuses me of being drunk.
