Why the models smile

heat of summer makes creamsicle
slave to its will
smears down my blouse
which is orange, too
dab with Kleenex
try again to concentrate
on magazine

blob of cream oozing onto smiling model
do models always seem to be smiling?
except the ones advertising jeans-
they're always half-naked
looking really pissed off

Realize this is a lost cause,
toss magazine into nearby trash barrel
along with sloppy remnant of desert.
Walk back to the bus stop.
see him
wearing the sun on his shoulders,
teeth peeking out from behind cracked lips.

Sit back on my bench
lost in the bright
of his shirt.
Caught by gaze of his eye.
Trapped in the warmth of his irresistible presence.
Melted
like my creamsicle.
