Distance

Is there a measure for the space that marks
The transit that a life may take
From then to now?
Because still I cannot find the point
This journey turned wrong.
Guideposts do not point up.
The native does not need them,
The outsider does not belong.
From below, distance is vast.
And yet this is one thing
About the ground:
Sky. You can dream free.
After climbing you always look down
Because the apple, they say
Does not fall far from the tree.
The distance is only the thickness of skin.
Peel me and see.

So much to think about in
So much to think about in this and I will enjoy reflecting upon what this poem makes me feel. Lots of wisdom here, I think. Especially like the lines about looking to the sky to dream free, but how then you always look down again. Rachel :)

Deep and beautifully written,
Deep and beautifully written, Kristi. I like it a lot and love the last two lines.

Very thoughtful poem,
Very thoughtful poem, agnosticnun. Lends weight to the argument "live for today". If only it were that easy, eh?
